APPLICATION PERIOD EXTENDED UNTIL 26 FEBRUARY 2015! Panos South Asia invites application for the media fellowships on South Asian Initiative for Migrant Labour for the year 2015. The fellowships are being offered by Panos South Asia as a part of a Swiss Development and Cooperation (SDC) project for encouraging dialogue and discussion on migrant labour issue among all concerned, including labourer, trade unions, and governments of labour-sending and labour-receiving countries.
Applications are invited from print, television, radio and web journalists writing/reporting on migrant labour issues from Bangladesh, Nepal, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. The fellowship will support writing/reporting stories on migrant labour from the region and labour-receiving countries.
The fellows will also have the opportunity to participate in an orientation workshop in the third week of March in Kathmandu, Nepal and first-hand experience trip to select destination countries that will link them with individuals and institutions from these neighbouring countries and understand migrant-related issues from a South Asian perspective.
One idea that the project aims to explore is: can there be a common South Asian voice on migrant labour? If so, how?
Applicants should have a strong motivation for working on migrant labour issues in South Asia. Preference would be given to journalists who contribute to media outside their home country.
Each journalist will have to file five stories and a small stipend for in-country research would be provided. All expenses related to travel and accommodation would be covered by PSA.
The application, by email, would need to include the following:
- A cover letter, in which the applicant explains his/her motivation for applying for the fellowship, and how he/she would use the fellowship to build on previous experience.
- A detailed CV with the names and contact details of two references.
- Copies of two stories published on migrant labour issues. TV/radio/web journalists can also provide the link of the programme or website.
- A copy of a scanned letter from the editor of the applicant’s publication, TV or radio channel supporting the application.
